March is one of my favorite months (it's my birthday month for one thing) and marks a time when produce changes are afoot with spring weather. A few of my top March produce items are peas, oranges and avocados!
Peas contain no cholesterol, with a low fat content so you are getting lots of nutrients without adverse side effects. They are also high in protein. In fact, there is more protein in peas than in cereal grains. Peas are also fiberous, which we know helps keep your body functioning properly! Read more about the health benefits of peas.
Oranges have a lot of water in them. A medium orange has about four ounces of water which helps our bodies function properly. Similar to peas, oranges have a good amount of fiber to help with digestive function, regulating blood sugar and insulin levels, and more. And the health benefit we all know about oranges - they contain a lot of vitamin C! About 80% of your daily value of vitamin C can be found in an orange. This helps support immune function, produce collagen, reduce inflammation, and boost your ability to use fat as a fuel source. Learn more about the health benefits of oranges.
Avocados have a high value of vitamin K, folate, and potassium, amongst other nutrients. Avocados actually have more potassium than a banana which is the fruit that comes to most peoples' minds when they think of potassium-rich foods. Avocados are also low in saturated fat, making them healthy (in the right quantity - as with all foods). Check out more info on the health benefits of avocado.
