My water challenge participants already know this but it is so important I can't stress it enough. And to start 2022 on the right foot, I recommend everyone recommit to staying hydrated.
The rule of thumb is drink half your body weight in ounces of water. So if you weigh 150 pounds, you should try to drink 75oz of water a day.
Many Americans suffer from chronic dehydration. Chronic dehydration can lead to fatigue, joint pain, headaches, ulcers and even high blood pressure. I want to encourage everyone to drink more water! In order to increase your water intake here are some tips:
Prep! Each morning set out the amount of water you plan to drink during the day. I like to drink out of mason jars so I put two large mason jars in the refrigerator with water.
Variety! Sometimes plain water can get boring. I recommend adding fruit and/or herbs to give your water flavor. Lemon rosemary, cucumber mint and basil lime are a few classic flavor combinations to consider.
Timing! Set time reminders for yourself to ensure you are drinking throughout the day. If you drink your entire daily water intake right before bed you may wake up several times to relieve yourself. Instead have alarms go off four times throughout the day to remind you to keep drinking.
Water is so important for our health. Cheers to a more hydrated 2022.
